Common Man is The Hero

Today I am shaken out of my slumber. After over a year of silence I am forced to write something.  Even I am surprised to see myself so agitated. Normally we common people don't get so agitated so what has brought this change. Today I watched Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (RNBDJ). So what is so special about this movie? Do you know this movie has done a business of over Rs 400 million in its very first week? Also the movie is in U.S. top 20. Surprised? So what? But let me question one thing with Mr Shahrukh Khan and Mr. Aditya Chopra, if I tell both you that RNBDJ is the best cinema I have watched and all other movies that have been created, produced, directed and acted before this film are nothing but a piece of sick trash. Now what will be there reaction? Any guesses? I tell you they will laugh at me and will feel insulted, humiliated and cursed.

Today the cinema is not only a medium to entertain people but to satisfy the pander desires of the people. There was a phase in the Hindi Cinema when Mithun, Dharmendra, Jitendra and Govinda were ruling the roost. Then came DDLJ and it was more like a breeze of fresh air. Vidhu Vinod Chopra created 1942 A Love Story, Parinda. Nana Patekar dared to make Movie like Prahaar. But what we are now exposed to Singh Is Kinng, Namaste London, Om Shanti Om, Kabhi Alvida Na Kahena. Now RNBDJ has entered into the scene which will be hit among the masses but lack the basic sense of cinema. What has happened to the audiences? Actually the audience has been fooled by the people who are there at the top. They know what our weakness is and are capitalising on that only.  They very well understand that just generating emotions of the common man one can easily make money.  So artistic urge has taken a backseat and money minting ability has taken the centresatge. Moreover, we common are an equal partner in this crime.

All of us want to be special; no one is willing to accept that he is not extra-ordinary. We live in a country of extraordinary people and extra ordinary people have an ordinary desire to an achiever in whatever they do. If they play cricket they can coach Sachin, If they have the ball they can give some swing tips to Wasim Akram, If talk they about finance, Paul Krugmen will look for shelter. Uffff......... What to tell what we are capable of. We are the best and we can do just about anything. We might look ordinary, but mind it we are extraordinary at the core. Just as Superman (Batman, Spiderman...........) hides his true identity, we Mangoman (Aam Adami) also hide our true nature.

Come on when will we grow up. Grow up, forget it, we can't grow up and we will never grow up as we are made to believe that we are so special that this world can't understand what we really are and hence there is no purpose in explaining what we are. Now this is the fact that these dream merchants know very clearly. After all they have there livelihood related to this. RNBDJ is a clear manifestation of this belief. The producer and director have capitalized on this weakness of ours. They have not only created such a trash but have guts to serve it with pride. This is what we are the ordinary output of extra ordinary people. I have seen works from the house of Mr Yash Chopra. The works are definitely comparable to the best of Indian Cinema. But RNBDJ is definitely not what cinema is. It is the sheer mockery of the sentiments of we, the common people. Please don't make fun of us in such a vulgar way.
